Album: Ghatana
Band: Nepathya
Genre: Varied
Rating: ****1/2

Ghatana has a theme, both musically and lyrically. The title track Ghatana's form is wonderful and rare even in Western symphony. The melody has more natural notes but the notes played by the strings, guitar and flute have a different approach. The guitar groove in Gharko Kura is pleasant. The music is Kata Lagyo is derived completely from the blues format. Juna Jhain starts on a jazzy progression when the first guitar solo begins. North Indian classical notes in Aama demonstrate the vesatility of the guitarist. This album is an example for the mainstream music scenario.

Album: Zenith
Genre: Pop
Artiste: Brinda
Rating: **1/2

Zenith consists of sample sounds. The flange effect in the starting vocals and other musical aspects of Siri Ma Siri's remix gives the impression that it was intentionally made to be a commercial number. Chodi Na Jau has some British rock and Brinda has sung it well otherwise it is a very commonplace song. Most songs in Zenith have a similar approach. Brinda can do better if she lets her voice accompany other styles of music. She is a good singer with a vocal tone of her own. Something like Nepali jazz would do her voice more justice.

Album: Feel
Genre: Pop
Artiste: Mingma Sherpa
Rating: ***

Mingma Sherpa's album is just another addition to mainstream music though comparatively, it is better than most. The song Cham Cham has an oriental flavour while Aansu is a touching pop/rock number. Kanchhi is an experiment in folk melody with blues notes in some guitar parts. Thaha Chaina uses Komal Ga Swara in its key notes, giving it a hint of Raag Shivaranjani. This song is different from the others in Feel. Mingma is a dedicated singer who can do better if he concentrates on other factors of making music.

Note: These albums have been reviewed on the basis of their respective genres.
