Welcoming the new year

Pokharelis welcomed New Year 2006 with a dance and dinner party at Shangrila Village Resort. Many tourists also participated in the celebrations. Besides dance parties, fashion shows and food festivals were also organised on New Year's eve. Pokhara's business tycoons were spotted at the event to welcome the Gregorian new year. Supported by Sujal Foods, Goshali House Pokhara, and Carlsberg Beer, the event was a success.

Singing, dancing, and sports

Suyoga Dance Training Centre recently held a school-level talent show in Pokhara. Around 40 government and 43 private schools participated in the event, which had Aman Tamang and Binit Jojiju as judges. Kushal Gurung of Bal Kalyan Boarding School stood first in singing; Naina Bataju of Motherland Boarding School won the best dancer award among the senior students, and Ritu Rana Magar grabbed the junior best dancer award.

At a separate event, Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management College (NTHMC), Pokhara, organised the city's third inter-college basketball tournament in mid-January. About 11 groups of boys and three girls' teams participated in the games, exhibiting their skills and sportsmanship. The girls' team of Mount Annapurna Campus stood first in the women's category, defeating NTHMC (Girls) 24-15. In the fourth-quarter of the boys' final round, a few players of the Pokhara College of Technology team got into a disagreement with the umpire and refused to play. As a result, NTHMC (Boys) won the final match with a score of 31-27. The winners were awarded medals, shield, and certificates by SJM Dewing, the administrative in-charge of British Camp, Pokhara.
