Play Golf
Who knew we would be treating ourselves to a game of Golf in Dharan? But we did. Swaying away from the perception of Golf being an expensive sport, Nirvana Country Club offers the country's cheapest Golf membership. For only Rs 2000, the resort offers a month long membership. If that isn't a bargain, what is?
Spend some time in a local pub
Although most places close at 8, there are a few pubs that offer live music and stay open till 10. Try Freaky's at Buddha Chowk and have a couple of B-52 shots while you are there.
Don't forget to hike to Namche
Recognised by CNN as one of the top ten places to see, Namche is just a few minutes drive away from Bhedetar. A twenty minute walk uphill is all it takes to get to this place. Away from the hustle and bustle, this quaint village offers a perfect respite.
Drive to Bhedetar
For a quick escape Dharan's scorching heat, drive to Bhedetar. A twenty minutes ride from the main bajaar, Bhedetar is cool and rejuvenates you in an instant. Once there, climb up to Charles Point and take in the view.
Take a walk around the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences
The ideal time to take a walk around the BP Koirala Institute is during the evening when the heat has cooled down considerably. The area is pretty huge so a walk around the institute makes for good exercise, much needed after binging on all the yummy local delicacies. On your way out, don't forget to try a Paan at a local shop.
Go on a picnic around Raja Rani Lake
The road leading to Raja Rani was recently built so much of the route is graveled and hence, makes for a bad journey. But once there, you will forget the bumps and the headache that bothered you throughout the ride. It is a suitable place to have a picnic. Boating is also available. Mind you, the wind blows pretty strong in the area so carry a jacket and a cap.
Don't miss out on Ookhu from Tamar khola
Tamar Khola has the juiciest ookhus that ooze sugary goodness. It is so finger lickin' good that we think it beats all claims by KFC.
Have a barbeque party at Yalambar Park
There are three community parks in Dharan-Yalambar Park being one of them. A trip to Dharan isn't complete without having a taste of pork barbeque. Rather than eating at a restaurant, gather your friends, and have a BBQ party at a park.
Try 'Sungur ko khuta ko achar' at Ratnachowk
The cutest little Boju runs a dingy, old restaurant where the best 'sungur ko khuta ko achar' is served. The portions are massive so I suggest you go on an empty stomach to fully relish the dish.
Shop for clothing materials at Bhanu Chowk
One of the first things we did in Dharan was to shop for clothing materials. There are many shops around Bhanu Chowk which offer diverse options, all at a very reasonable rate. Once you are done buying your materials, give it to the local tailors and ask them to create clothes as per your designs. Whether it is a cute little lacey dress, or a work-shirt, Dharaney tailors have the skills and they don't disappoint.
