As if the economic recession and increasing unemployment rates were not harsh enough, the abrupt closure of many small and medium colleges in the United Kingdom has only facilitated in making life more difficult for thousands of international students who had gone to the UK to gain an international degree. According to media reports, many Nepali students are among these students who have paid a huge sum of money to get admission and fly to the UK only to be abandoned in the middle of nowhere.

Keeping in mind the economical, physical and psychological burden that Nepali students have to bear to study in the UK for an internationally recognized degree, a few well-established colleges from UK have started coming forward to offer their international study programs at local costs in Nepal; which not only results in huge monetary savings, but also time.

It is a known fact that a graduate with an international degree will have an advantage over others in terms of practical learning experience and life skills and probably this is the reason why many Nepali students are opting to study in these colleges which are directly affiliated to Universities of UK.

Islington College

Islington College, formerly known as Informatics College, is an autonomous private education institution dedicated to excellent academic performance and student experience. Established in 1997 as a regular franchisee of Singapore main-board listed Informatics Education Limited (IEL), the College now directly partners with London Metropolitan University (LondonMet) to deliver their Bachelor Degrees in Computing, Computer Networking & IT Security, and Multimedia Technologies programmes for in-country provision.

Being the first academic institution in Nepal to run a UK university undergraduate programme, Islington offers undergraduate courses in Computing, Computer Networking and IT security and Multimedia technologies. Islington College also has a direct articulation agreement with the University of Northampton so that students who study in the various programmes in the College may go to Northampton for the final-year of their different degree programmes. But even if the students choose to continue studying in Kathmandu, they will enjoy the same status as students studying in London.

Islington boasts of a very English-speaking friendly learning environment and all teaching faculties are approved by LondonMet for teaching the most updated curriculum and qualifications from the UK, including specialized IT tracks. It also has a truly impressive infrastructure with state- of-the-art computer laboratories, lecture rooms, tutorial rooms and a student friendly environment conducive to encouraging independent thought and individualized learning. Islington also recognizes academic excellence of students by awarding them with various scholarships and a career head start for all the students with industry visits and real world projects. Local internship and job placement opportunities are managed by the college for its students along with career counseling and development sessions.
