You really can't go wrong with a pair of straight-leg dark denim. A dark pair of jeans is much more professional and looks more refined with a blazer and dress shoes. Wear them with button-down shirts in traditional solid colours, checks or pinstripes. And always, always tuck your shirt in and wear formal shoes.

When you're keeping it casual or going for a look with an edge, choose a pair of denims with a relaxed fit. This means it's loose on the hip and thigh straight down to the knee. Buy them so they gather a bit around the ankles and fit easily at the waist.

The cardigan is one of the most versatile and classy pieces in a man's wardrobe, but few men know how to wear a cardigan. Instead of dress pants, opt for a pair of slim-fitting, tailored jeans. Keep the color of the sweater in mind when choosing jeans. If you are going dark on top, keep it light and fresh with the jeans and vice versa.

Yes, jeans have a place in every modern preppy male's wardrobe. Perfect for occasions when khakis somehow aren't casual enough, opt for fitted straight cuts or ones that slightly taper at the end; keep the boot cuts to the bar scene later on. And preppy doesn't necessarily mean white, light blue or very light pink. Unless, you are brave enough.
