THE BUZZ | MOVIE
Ragini MMS
The Good Ragini MMS is a big upgrade from the sleazy C grade horror movies that run in budget theatres, mostly enjoyed by horny young men. Unlike run-of-the-mill Bollywood films, Ragini MMS' concept is unconventional, with minimal importance given to glitz and glamour. Also, it is a good break from the usual musicals, making the film surprisingly short: 1 hour 25 minutes. The romp scenes are quite daring. For once, the actors kiss like they are supposed to, Ragini is unabashed about expressing her sexual needs, and one of the actors even uses the phrase 'I am coming'. Seriously, who has done that in Bollywood? It is very bold of these new faces to be so uninhibited for the camera. Ragini does not find out until the end that Uday is secretly filming a sex tape of their intimacy at the haunted farm house. The best part about the movie is the realistic performances given by Ragini and Uday, the lead pair. The Bad Yet again, Bollywood has failed to produce an adequately spooky horror film. To make her presence felt, the ghost yanks the actors' hair and flings their bodies until they bleed. The gruesome factors involved are not gory enough for even those extremely squeamish amongst us. Although one actor reveals the fact that the house is haunted by a woman once killed by her own family members for being a witch, this point is not visualized well or clarified enough. The witch keeps saying "main chudail nahin hoon" (I am not a witch) and that's it. Along with this, the continuous dim light, the grainy video effect and the endless screaming add to the annoyance factor. The Ugly The main spooky factor, the witch, is so damn ugly that she is invisible. Ragini MMS was inspired by the true life events that happened to a Delhi school girl but since Bollywood is so fixated with lifting ideas from Hollywood horror flicks, the movie ends up looking like a poor remake of Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project. For movie makers in Mumbai 'Creativity is great, but plagiarism is faster.' Keeping Up With The Kardashians The ever-so-publicity-loving Kardashian family has come up with yet another reality show on TV called Keeping Up with the Kardashians. And just to make sure the family is foremost on the minds of Internet users everywhere, Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and the rest of the Kardashian women have released a viral video they made, where they are seen lip syncing Katy Perry's song 'ET'. Beliebers hate Selena The Justin Bieber fans aka Beliebers who already hate Selena Gomez have one more reason to do so after the pictures of him romancing his girlfriend Selena Gomez at a beach in Hawaii flooded the Hollywood gossip websites. The Beliebers are really upset with Miss Gomez, flooding Bieber's fan page/sites with many threats including death.
