Imperfect Perfection
All these religious deities are nothing more than illusions that we mortals came up with, either to answer the ever-questioning child, or to coat our own fear ('So what if our Gods aren't perfect', #174). The reasons are innumerable. Hence it only makes sense that the most powerful human-made institution, religion, would contain human-like figures to head it. 'Humanification' of the deities is the only way to think, pretend or know that we mortals are closer to the Gods. Thus, as you say we shouldn't worry that the "Hindu gods wouldn't stand a chance". We mortals care less about what they do and more about them protecting us from our fears.

Think outside the book
The whole idea of teaching and learning in Nepal has been centered completely on the text-based exam-oriented system where a student is seen as being able/smart on the basis of the results produced ('Plus points of plus two'#175). Whether or not a student has acquired cognitive knowledge and life skills is altogether an unknown terrain.

Many thanks to the Wave magazine family for letting us know more about Reshma Sunuwar ('Know All' #175). She's become one of my favourite singers ever since I heard her song mai thuli bhaichu re and kya mitho geet gayaou lahure. The best thing I love about her is her voice.
