Let us eat cake

Welcome to the 16th anniversary issue of WAVE! Usually this would mean we pop open the champagne and have a cake fight in the office. Instead, we thought it would be fun to get 16 outstanding achievers from almost every field (except politics!) to pose in formal attire. Never before in the history of a Nepali publication have such a group of personalities been assembled for a single issue. What thrilled us even more was how happy they were to pose in swanky suits and floor-length dresses. Some had to be mildly coaxed.

Each of these figures is a giant in their field and we hope they inspire you as much as they do us. Bhumika Shrestha is the first LGBT representative in a major political party. Robin Tamang has inspired a generation of young musicians. Manjushree Thapa has successfully published so many books that it makes most of us in the office want to quit our jobs and start writing novels and other books right now. We are especially excited that these stirring personalities agreed to grace our cover because we start a new phase of WAVE with this issue, as you will see in the next 60 plus pages.

Our aim is to talk about the things you like to talk about, aspire to the things you aspire to, be forward looking, forward thinking and, above all, to experience and enjoy the finest in everything – from music to fashion, travel and gadgets. With each issue, we will strive to bring you something deeper and more stimulating, like we do with the story about eye transplants this month.

WAVE has come a long way, literally, since it took the nation by storm when it sold every copy of its first issue. Now that we have reached the 16th year, we would like to give a shout-out to Anup Prakash, the managing editor and photographer of this magazine, who has stuck with WAVE since the beginning and shot the famous faces of this cover.

We had fun, and a mild case of exhaustion, putting this issue together. We hope you enjoy it.
