Walking down the streets in any city in the West, people do a double take when they see him. Eldon John is the spitting image of Elton John. But here in Nepal, except sometimes in Thamel no one really sees the resemblance. And that is what Eldon likes about Nepal: the anonymity and the warmth of the Nepalis. "I think Nepal is a fantastic place where people are humble and friendly," says Eldon, who wants to help with Nepal's tourism effort. "Sir Elton has no plans of performing here but I would love to help with the Visit Nepal 2011 plan of the government and promote this lovely place," says he. Eldon John was appointed by Elton John himself to represent him in Nepal and push his charities here. Sir Elton John's AIDS foundation donated $44,000 to the Blue Diamond Society in Kathmandu in 2005. "People here have finally started to come out of the closet. Having Sunil Babu Pant in the Constitution Assembly is an achievement in itself and a proof that people are starting to accept gay people as who they are," said Eldon. Married to a Nepali girl, he fell in love with this country when he first visited Nepal 12 years ago. He plans to come to Nepal once every year now to oversee various projects. Eldon has represented Sir Elton in various projects and created quite a stir in the media and amongst the people in Kathmandu because of his exact resemblance with Elton John. Says Eldon: "Sir Elton is currently touring with Billy Joel, but I will try my best to bring him to Kathmandu too."
