Change begins within

Change is the way of life. The monsoon clouds have drifted away, making way to dazzlingly blue autumn skies. We step into the festive mood this season with Dashain and Tihar.

This is the season in which young hopefuls flock to universities all over the world for higher education. Most of those who've decided to go abroad for further studies have already flown away while others who remain are hastily packing up. For most of them, this will be their first Dashain outside of their home, families and country. Many of them will have classes to attend on the day of Tika or some lecture to listen to on Deusi. As they get ready for this uneasy transition, from a protective high-school upbringing to an essentially solitary life, some will find it hard to adjust and adapt. Some will find the change easier. Either way, the sooner they acknowledge change and embrace it, the easier it is.

This annual exodus has also affected us here at WAVE. Staffers have moved on to college, and a new team has joined in. Even though the team changes, however, the enthusiasm and commitment remains for the nation's most happening youth magazine.

This month, WAVE talks about the changes in the urban culture in Kathmandu. Read about how the cinema scene and shopping culture are evolving . Read about how a group of friends is working to bring change in the lives of five children .

Change is inevitable. And as our own country transits from purano to naya Nepal, hopefully it will also be a jhan ramro Nepal. But as much as we talk about change, accept it or discard it, the most important change is that which comes from within ourself. Like Paul McCartney called his April concert: 'Change Begins Within.'

Happy Dashain and Tihar.

Change begins within-by Milan is a very good attempt to encourage students/Nepalese flying abroad or already living abroad. However, Nepal is our home that we miss more than anything during this festive season despite of any encouragement for adapting the lifestyle and environment where we are today, far very far from our home. Still I am grateful for your wish for all Nepalese flying / living abroad for their happiness. Wish you and entire WAVE team a very prosperous and happy Vijaya Dashami!!! Shantie
