MAP MARKS
Where in Nepal is this? by SURAI NAKA
Last month's map was of the bridge at Surai Naka. The bridge was so strategic during the war because it joins Kapilbastu to Dang and beyond that the Maoists tried to destroy it three times with high explosives. The bridge tilted ominously and it looked like it could collapse any moment, but since there was no other way to commute between Kapilbastu and Dang trucks and buses made a precarious crossing for years. It was only after the ceasefire in 2006 that the Roads Department started repairing the bridge and strengthening the pillars. It took them two years and the bridge is now good as new--an example of successful post-war reconstruction. Where in Nepal is this?
