You may have heard someone referred to as a "very diplomatic person" or the term "giving a diplomatic answer." Well it's no coincidence that the expression that means to give a fair and unbiased answer is a derivative of the prestigious government post. Being a diplomat is one of the only careers that will allow you to live in various countries across the globe and interact with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. So do you know what it means to be diplomatic?

1. A girl in your class got a new haircut and it looks downright awful. You:

A. Immediately tell her that her new look is a train wreck.

B. Wait for her to ask you your opinion and then politely tell her that she looks nice but that you liked her old hair better.

C. Shower her with compliments before she can even mention the fact that she got a hair cut.

2. You're out for a dinner and the waiter brings all your friends their meals, but somehow misses your order of momos. You:

A. Complain to the manager and demand a discount.

B. Wait for the waiter to ask "Anything else?" and then quietly point out that he seems to have overlooked your order.

C. Just forget that you even ordered anything and munch a few fries off your friend's plate.

3. Two of your friends are in a fight. Deep inside you know you agree with one friend much more than the other.  You:

A. Intervene and stand up for the friend you agree with and put the other friend in his/her place.

B. Put your own opinion aside and calmly sit both friends down and try to help them work it out.

C. Avoid the whole situation and go missing when they try to turn to you for help.

4. You are the officer of a branch of a club on your campus but the national headquarters has a different way of doing things than you do. You:

A. Still do things your way – after all, you are the officer, aren't you?

B. Try to see things from their perspective and without making anyone mad, try to voice your opinion to the leaders. If that doesn't work, just follow the orders from above.

C. Don't ask too many questions and just do what you are supposed to do.

Mostly A's:
Blunt is your middle name. You don't really understand the expression "think before you talk". You don't go out of your way to be a people pleaser and aren't afraid of stepping on toes when you say things. You may think that saying what's on your mind is often the best policy, but you don't always realise the consequences of your words. Diplomatic is the last thing that you are.

Mostly B's:
Cha-ching! You are the embodiment of the word "diplomatic". You never say too much or too little. You know when to voice your opinion and when to hold it in. You hardly ever rock the boat which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.  While you may never cause problems with your words, you also may never effect change in the world. It takes a bit of daring words to effect real change and that's something you can't always do while worrying about maintaining your diplomatic persona.

Mostly C's:
Being diplomatic doesn't mean being a pushover. You'd rather keep all your opinions and thoughts bottled up inside than make anyone the slightest bit angry or disappointed in you. Holding it all in might subject you to being walked all over in life. You would also rather tell people exactly what they want to hear rather than the truth and this my friend, can be more dangerous and can leave people more hurt or disappointed in the long run than you might realise at the moment.
