Children on Environment
The 2nd National Conference of Children Clubs was held from the 11 to 13 January in Budhanilkantha School, Kathmandu. A total of 245 participants from 70 different clubs from 20 districts all over Nepal took part in the event. As part of the program many competitions, group discussions, expert sessions and cultural programs were held. Knowledge Market Place and sn exhibition was held on the first day. A panel of judges from leading INGOs decided on the winner and five best concepts were awarded with the cash prize of Rs 25,000 each to implement the ideas/proposal in their respective schools. The five selected clubs were Yachu Macha Pucha, Lalitpur (rehabilitation of library), Manohar Prakriti club, Morang (water for sanitation and drinking), Nava Paluwa Child Club, Kathmandu (water and sanitation in school), Sramjit Prakriti club, Lalitpur (building fencing and painting), Tungara Bal Club, Chitwan (open toilet free zone). The conference also had a group discussion facilitated by Anil Chitrakar on the topic 'Issues of Child Rights and Environment' and to put in the preamble of the constitution of Nepal that is being drafted. The program, a joint effort of Environment Camps for Conservation Awareness (ECCA) and Taksvarkki ry, Finland was organised with the theme 'Future Now For Sustainable Education and Environment'.
