Want to know what Hollywood has in store for you this year? WAVE gives you a sneak peek of some of the hottest upcoming movies. Let the excitement begin! The Spirit (January) Sin City fans rejoice – Spirit is on his way! Coming from the Miller camp, The Spirit is another comic-book-turned-live-action-movie that wears the same dark, monochromatic look as the earlier Frank Miller movies. The movie tells the story of Spirit, a masked vigilante, fighting crime in the crime-ridden Central City. Starring Gabriel Macth, Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes, the movie is sure to make all those waiting apprehensively for Sin City 2 to find some solace. Friday the 13th (February) Relive the nightmare once again this year as Jason is making a comeback for yet another round of deliciously disturbing gore-fest. Remade from the original cult-classic, Friday the 13th follows the story of a young couple in search of a missing person in Crystal Lake – home to the infamous hockey-mask-donning killer Jason. Come to see Jason kill his victims in an elaborately disgusting fashion, like cutting their stomach wide open and making them eat their own gut...or something. Terminator Salvation (May) The first Terminator movie without Arnie is here. Set in the year 2018, Terminator Salvation will feature Batman Christian Bale in the lead role and Helena Bonham Carter in a small but pivotal role. The movie is not tied up with the original films, but the premise is the same – the war between machines and humans. This time, mankind is at stake: our hero must fight against the evil system SkyNet in order to save himself and the whole of humanity from a machine inflicted tyranny. What a task! Inglorious Basterds (May) Very little has been leaked about Quentin Tarantino's purposely misspelled movie Inglorious Basterds. In Tarantino's (of Pulp Fiction fame) own word, this movie is his first 'bunch of guys on a mission' film in the likes of Dirty Dozen and Guns of Navarone. Set on Nazi occupied France in World War II, it will feature a huge ensemble cast including Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Paul Rust as the bastards and Samuel L Jackson, Diane Kruger, Mike Myers and many more on other roles. Lets see whether Pitt's transition from one stupid bastard (Burn After Reading) to another works in his favour or not. Others Apart from the above, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale starrer Public Enemies (July), Disney's The Princess and the Frog (December) is releasing this year. Also in the radar are sequels like X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May), Angels & Demons (May), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (June), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (July). Also look out for independent flicks - these new crop of filmmakers have some interesting stories to tell and some even more interesting presentations to flaunt. Expect a few gems this year too.
