HAIR CARE
No more winter blues
by EMMA SCIANTARELLI
It's winter time and while in most of urban Nepal, winter doesn't translate into snow, there is no question that there is a definite change in climate. Managing your hair against the brutal cold of winter can be a daunting task, but have no fear: WAVE is here to help battle all those winter blues in order to keep you looking your best. Got Hat Hair? • Consider wearing a loosely wrapped scarf around your head instead of a tightly fitted hat. This will give your hair space to stay styled rather than pressing your hair flat up against your head. • People with straight long hair should consider wearing their hair in a braid under the cap. When you reach your hatless destination, undo the braids and run your fingers through your hair. It will leave you with a relaxed wavy look. • Carry a mini brush and a mini bottle of gel. Light and easy to carry, being prepared with all the right tools makes bringing your hair back to its original form a much easier task. • Keep it simple. Trying to maintain a complicated style and wearing a hat is an impossible task. Hat days are supposed to be about a carefree style. Got Static? • Wear a wool hat. Wool is less likely to cause static than other materials. • Spray your brush with a bit of hairspray before you brush. This calms your hair without plastering it in place. • Splash some water. If you don't have a brush or spray, dampen your hands and run it through your hair. Got Dry, Damaged Hair? • Summer, autumn, spring and fall, the answer is always the same: don't neglect to give your hair a deep conditioning or oil treatment on a bi-monthly basis. • Don't go out with damp hair. Wearing damp hair in the cold can damage your hair when it gets too cold. Your precious strands of hair have just as hard of a time adjusting to extreme temperatures as your body does, so treat them well. • Don't go crazy with hot air from the hair dryer. It's best to allow yourself enough time to let your hair dry naturally, but if you do have to use a dryer, be easy on the heat. • Don't over-wash. Allow your hair some time to soak up its natural oils in order to gain strength and moisture. Washing too often strips your hair of its own natural elements that keep it strong and healthy.
