Raju Lama is back in town! Fans and media have been going gaga over Raju Lama as he returned home some weeks back. This proves how popular he was and that's what he thought as well. He said "We were tagged as celebrities back then but really didn't feel like one. But when I went to the US and spent time there, I seemed to have been the topic of discussion here, which felt good in a way, knowing that you are famous but then the media was, I think, too harsh on me without knowing the truth and published stories of me going underground and all."

He justifies and gives answer to all those speculations by saying, "I had no plans of staying back but I had to for a reason, which I did, but in a legal way. I was in no way an illegal immigrant." So what brought him back home? "Making music is my passion and that's the reason why I came back, to create music," he says adding, "of course there is no place like home." Currently busy with his album, which is being marketed and produced by Music Nepal, concerts and promotions, he plans to release the album in March or April next year. He also has plans to do shows in the Big Apple, New York and tour Europe after which he will head back home again and release his much anticipated album.

When inquired what all he did in the US, Raju said his most memorable moment was when he performed at the Capitol Hill and performed in front of Dalai Lama, Richard Gere, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi and many other known figures. He was proud to have represented Nepal there and was content when the Dalai Lama bestowed a dhaka  topi on him (in the picture). He said, "Whatever happened in the past has happened and I don't regret it. In fact, I am happy to have represented Nepal in such a venue where no one has till date got a chance and who knows if other Nepali ever will?" Artists disappearing saga in the US was all high some years back and to that Raju answered back saying that he can't state why other artists disappear in the US but his situation was completely different and difficult. "It's not easy living in the US but yes, money can be a factor."

He seemed very happy returning home and was overwhelmed by people's appreciation. He was also happy to find out that he was among the top 3 singers in the Caller Back Ring Tones (CRBT) list. Raju Lama's next leg of his tour is at Jawalkhel Ground on 6 December and in Dharan on 20 December. Swing by www.rajulama.com.np for information and updates.

I second that: Why would saying somebody worked at a petrol pump or a restaurant be an indication of "badmouthing"?

2. shredk, Sydney
There is no crime to work except dealing with drugs or some other hard stuffs. I am proud of all Nepali people who are working hard and studying at various Universities with their hard earned money - almost 90% Neapli does that here in Sydney. Some even saves and sends mony back home, Nepal! Isn't that beautiful - excellent example - to become Role Model! Three Cheers for all my respected beloved Nepali people, who are making their own identity in this foreign land!!!

why do people interfere in other's business... Com on give him a break... he is also a person with desire and hope and most of all a human being.. And I guess he didn't sign a contract before becoming a singer to sing only in Nepal. bishal sathi, timi le ni chance pako vaye timi ni jhan thiyo.. so, live and let other live in peace... And good luck to Raju!!!

Nothings wrong with working in a petrol station. But when an article has nothing but load of garbage its all wrong. Get your facts together before you put anything down.

When are we going to grow up? When someone is a public figure and a celebrity it does become public matter they lose "private life" privilege most of the time. Work is work no matter what and where. Media (most of them) will say what will sell. As far as grammar for the other comment. English is not our first language so it deserves a break, not an excuse. Anywho, let him and his managers figure out what's true and not with the media.

Don't worry Bishal bro ... good question ... I think it's good for Artist to go around the world and experience the way of life and different environment. It can bring more creativity and feeling. U know, some singer has sung the song about Army even they are not from the army but they got feeling looking around and asking other ... think positive n be happy.

What's all these fuss about? when there are thousands of nepalese living abroad earning livelyhood, Why can't Raju Lama do the same? I know he is an artist and a public figure. But does it mean all artists should cease to live a normal life? Raju may well has spent couple of years in the west. But,Raju has been an unapointed good will ambassador to many nepalese who live in the west.Raju Brought nepal to the nepalese living aboard - a sense of longing for home and envoking patroitism in them.Raju served his country well even when he is out of his country-through his melodious tunes and soothing voice! Keep up the good work Tashi delek. A tibetan/nepali fan!
