Motorcycle Diaries
by KASHISH DAS SHRESTHA
Motorcycle Diaries is, in simple words, a fantastic film. Released in September 2004, the movie is based on the true story of a young Che Guevara, who travelled across the South American continent on a motorbike with his friend Alberto Granado in 1951-1952. This critically acclaimed movie also works very well as a social documentary based on one of the most charismatic revolutionaries of all time, Che Guevara. The movie is a glimpse of a college boy evolving into a man who travels his native continent and realises the injustices and disparities that exist in its societies, increasingly understanding the need to speak out against it. Added to this are its romantic and humorous elements and the stunning landscape of Latin America, making the story and the shots quite fabulous. Director Walter Salles has done a wonderful job of recreating history in the making. By the end of it, one can't help but want to head out onto the open roads. And that's not a bad idea at all.
