Copying someone else's work isn't just wrong morally, it's a criminal offence. Yet in Nepal, both the criminal offenders and the artists don't know that laws exist to protect an artist's creativity. So, on 12 September Alliance Française hosted a concert with the aim of promoting awareness on copyright issues in Nepal. Prakash Sayami, Vice President of Music Royalty Collection Society of Nepal, presented a paper stressing the need for a collective body to protect and monitor the commercial use of artists work. Also, present at the evening was advocate Rabin KC who emphasised enforcement of the existing laws and the need for consumers to play a hand at stopping piracy. After the presentation, Bijay Vaidya & Rock Sitar performed an eccentric infusion of eastern and western music, all the while highlighting the need to protect their originality.
