Being नेपाली
Being a part of the transitional generation who live in a global village but are expected to follow medieval traditions as one would the law, we've been accused of not being Nepali enough. But I fail to understand what being Nepali is about. Is it saying yes to everything with a smile on your face or is it just sitting back and accepting happenings as this is how it is? Is it being proud of Mt Everest and Lord Buddha enough for being a Nepali or do we also have to develop an apathetic nature? Or is it as simple as knowing how to speak the language and being able to eat daal bhat properly with your hands? So, among all these factors where does cultural identity come into place? I thought what set me apart from the rest was our culture, even though I don't agree with a lot of it some times but proudly flaunt it anyway. I remember explaining the rituals and the customs to my friends while in college and how big a deal it was for me to go home every Dashain despite not having holidays. But with the current changes in the political sphere and lifestyle of people there seems to have been many alterations. Yes, the rituals are strange and there is definitely a lot of room for improvement IF we choose to be a little flexible. So starting this festive season lets create a balance, focus on the essence rather than the process. Dashain and Tihar brings together families and celebrates traditions and life in general. And that is what being a true Nepali is. WAVE wishes you a happy festive season, eat, drink (soft drinks of course) and make merry! C2

Being Nepali was a pride for me once, but now with every day of backwardness of the country; politically, economically & developmentally I don't know how to represent myself as Nepali. If you talk about Mt. Everest, then this Chinese people says its theirs (referring Tibet) and Buddha seems to stolen by Indians. Now what's left? AM LOST IN THIS WORLD TRYING TO REPRESENT MY COUNTRY & MYSELF. Posted on:

Being Nepali is like telling me to be myself. I have no probs with that. I think what the younger generation is having trouble with is: What is there to be proud of my country? I'm not a reflection of my gov't(eventually, they are what represents us to the whole world)! Being pushed around and bullied by our neighbors. YO! Maoists is that how you came to power!? Get your game on man. Make me proud to be a nepali! We, the people of Nepal DEMAND it!! PEACE and LOVE Posted on:

3. Nepali, somewhere
We're from a magical place with lots of history and culture. Very old society and where people are kind and beautiful. You shouldn't have to be disappointed because of Everest and Buddha. We are from one of the poorest country in the world where everyday we struggle to make ends meat. There is nothing wrong in being true and having humility. Tell them like it is and hope they understand and respect your honesty and then move on. My two cents for you. Still Representing Nepal wherever i am. Posted on:

backwardness? on what terms? and more importantly, on whose terms? sure, we may be a poor country but i don't think we're backward. poor doesn't imply backward. politically, we're the youngest democracy in the world. and economically, we still have a long way to go but we'll get there. i love nepal. seems like those days back in childhood is far gone now and is only treasured in our mind about this festival when we used to be so happy and active. damn with the politics of nepal. God bless all the people. all we can do is to pray to God as we have always been doing it for generations. Thanks to Maoists who is in power now for taking back to 20 years back in long civil war. everything is wrong with Nepal. Posted on:

Being a nepali doesnt only mean that we go on bragging about our history and stay content on that.It instead means that we stop running out or figeting around, and be brave enough to face the china or india that claims our assets. Posted on:

Guys!!! We are just learning to walk right now politically and literally. We are starting to cover the globe and we are learning the stuffs and how it works okie. There is always a transition phase and we are running through this phase. Lets not get dissapointment irrespective of whatever we are facing. Lets support each other and try to send money to your family back home for better life.. We have to revolutionize our home and family members first and slowly each home will get all the awareness........ Politics is like this in every country in the starting face.. Literacy is the only thing we need to push towards. Lets focus and help all bothers and sisters to get their best education. As for the Proudness. Yes and will always be ..... HEY!HEY!HEY!Let me make it clear frst that "BEATY LIES IN THE EYES OF BEHOLDER" so, it's on you how you see the things infront of you. What I've seen in most of the present youths and adults is everytime they are cursing their own nation. They never see whats actually NEPAL is.The thing that they see is what actually is there in nepal and what is it providing to them.Nepal is our country and it's on us to run it's every sectors either social or economical or political in stable way.Only the complains that we make cannot make any difference. The thing that can make difference is our determination to search out possibilities and opportunities in what we have hare.
