WHAT'S UP
A step towards change
Joining forces Child Protection Centers and Services (CPCS) and Voice of Children (VOC) launched the book The abuses of street children in Kathmandu on 11 August at Yala Maya Kendra. In an effort to bring awareness to the psychosocial, physical and sexual abuse that street children experience, CPCS and VOC conducted a research on 150 street children of Kathmandu. The book highlights issues that are normally considered taboos in Nepali society such as social violence and sex. While the main guest speaker Subash Chandra Nembang couldn't make it to this launch, other speakers were Rudra Nepal, Krishna Thapa, Gauri Pradhan and Kamal Mani Dixit. Following the speeches was a small play which portrayed one example of how street children are tricked into situations where they are forcibly abused by both Nepali's and foreigners.
