Saving the environment with a click

connect2earth.org is an online community for the youth launched by WWF, IUCN and supported by Nokia, created to let young people express their thoughts on the environment. The International Union for Conservation of Nature, the world's oldest and largest global environmental network helps to find pragmatic solutions for burning environment issues and challenges, and WWF, the global conservation organisation, whose mission is to stop the degradation of the earth's natural environment hope that this idea will inspire the youth to become more environmentally aware. James Leape, Director General of WWF International, claims that: "connect2earth is a truly global space for young people to connect, share and express their concerns and hopes about the environment online". Nokia, a leader in the world of communication, is also helping this site.

Participants aged 13 -35 can enter the connect2earth competition by creating short films, capturing photos and submitting comments through the internet. This site believes that the increasing popularity of mobile phones as a means to access the internet allows participants to upload videos, pictures, comments and rank others' entries, discuss issues they feel strongly about and contribute ideas anytime and anywhere. The participants whose views stand out will be selected each month by voters and the winners will be awarded Nokia mobile phones. Then, the overall winner, who will participate in the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Barcelona this October, will be selected by a panel of renowned conservationists.
