The day SLC results are declared, the environment throughout the country is festive. The anticipation is followed by chaos and then, jubilation. Getting worried on hearing rumours about the day of the declaration, waking up at odd hours to telephone calls giving wrong information and of course, waiting for the newspaper boy early morning, these are all parts of the SLC experience. So much for thinking the anxiety was over on the last day of the exam.

My favourite part of this experience was looking for my serial in a sea of other numbers. I had nightmares about not finding my number in the paper and being the only one in the entire country who had failed. But I was deprived of this experience because I was in India when my SLC results were declared and I got my results readymade with my number highlighted on a fax paper rather than a newspaper. I feel this year's SLC graduates were deprived of this experience too. With the advent of technology, getting one's results was just an SMS away and finding out the results, as simple as reading the scroll in the evening news. We live in an instant messaging world and Nepal needs to get on the bandwagon too but the development of technology has taken away a huge part of experience that every generation of Nepali before this had. It's not a loss of culture but a realisation of the changing times.

With that gone, most of you are now taking the real test, that of deciding what to study next.
