For this Valentine's Day we list our ten favourite romantic movies that is perfect for any couple, not too mushy (and guys, we guarantee they won't make you gag), not too sappy, just perfect.

When Harry Met Sally

Harry and Sally are friends and are mutually attracted to each other, but fear sex will ruin it for them. They try to hook each other up with their respective best friends, but the plan backfires and their friends end up marrying each other. Finally, one night, they end up having sex and in fact, it does get in the way.

Love Actually

 ANUP PRAKASH
Love Actually is a tribute to all that is love. A tapestry of mini-stories, the film follows the British prime minister on his quest to declare his love for his secretary, a couple who fall in love amidst making porn movies, a very British fellow who wants to woo American women with his accent, and a young boy unable to tell his young friend that he likes her. Although overly mushy at times, the film is fun and celebrates all kinds of love.

City of Angels

 ANUP PRAKASH
An angel of death, Seth, falls in love with surgeon Maggie. Seth attempts to win over Maggie and does too, but shocks her when he reveals that he is an angel. But soon Seth has to make a choice between his life as god' messenger and his love for Maggie. Accompanied by a soothing soundtrack, City of Angels, is definitely worth watching, just for the soundtrack itself.

Garden State

 ANUP PRAKASH
Sam is vivacious and bubbly with a penchant for lies while Andrew Largeman is withdrawn and aloof. So it is only natural that Large, who is in town for his mother's funeral, falls for her while waiting in a doctor's office. Sam draws out Large and Large ends up falling for Sam. Garden State is quirky, and its difference is what will pull you in and make you love the movie.

In the Mood for Love

 ANUP PRAKASH
Chow Mo-Wan and Su Li-zhen are two neighbours in late 60s Hong Kong. With both of their spouses away most of the time, the two gradually come to know each other and start a hesitant friendship. Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung give masterful performances and the chemistry between them in undeniable. The director plays with music, colour and everything else to create an atmosphere of romance.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

 BHUSHAN SHILPAKAR
Joel and Clementine had a relationship but they cannot remember it. The reason being that after a vicious fight, Clementine hired an agency to erase all memory of Joel. Joel on discovering this tries to do the same. Most of the movie takes place in Joel's mind as he goes through the erasure process. Midway he realises that he doesn't want to erase everything and struggles to hold on to what little memories he has left. The film is painful at times, but ultimately, lovely and beautiful.

Pretty Woman

 ALOK TUMBAHANGPHEY
Who hasn't watched this movie about Vivian, the prostitute with a heart of gold? A modern day fairytale of a streetwalker meeting a millionaire and falling in love with each other, Pretty Woman is a light-hearted comedy about life, love and everything in between.

My Sassy Girl

This is a hilarious romantic comedy about a very domineering girl and one very subservient boy. On meeting a drunken girl for the first time, Kyun-woo is forced to take care of her by the passengers who think she is his girlfriend. He then falls headlong into a kind-of relationship with the girl, who is only too glad to take advantage of him. The film is funny and romantic but at times a little over the top towards the end. But what else can you expect from a Korean romance?

My Girl

Vada Sultenfuss is not a normal girl. She is obsessed with death as her mother is dead and her father runs a funeral parlour. She is also in love with her English teacher. Vada has a best friend, Thomas J, who is allergic to absolutely everything. A sad tragic tale of young love and romance, My Girl will tug at your heartstrings and leave you teary-eyed.

Mad Love

 ANUP PRAKASH
Matt and Casey are Seattle teens in love. However, Casey suffers from clinical depression and is hospitalised for a suicide attempt. Matt helps Casey escape and the two take to the road, running away from everything. On the road, Casey starts having problems again and it is up to Matt to help her through it. A sweet tale of teenage romance, it often feels callous at TIMES.
