WHAT'S UP
Going solo after 41 years!
Veteran singer Prem Dhoj Pradhan mesmerized the audience with his voice, when he rendered 18 of his evergreen songs in the Paleti Series at Nepalaya's R-Shala on 25 January. The evening started with Maya Namara Mayalu which happens to be the first recorded song of the maestro. Even at 72, Pradhan, sounded amazingly vibrant. His solo performance included melodies like Taara Matra Haina Timilai, Tadha Laijau Phoolharu, Yo Naniko Shiraima, Goreto Tyo gaunko and Ghumtima Na Aau Hai to name a few. Sharing his experience of the bygone era of Nepali music he said, "It was not as easy to record those days. We had to trek to Hetauda through Bhimphedi before catching a bus to Indian border to board a train to Calcutta." Next Paleti will feature Shantanu Kumar Limbu from Manipur, Imphal in India on 29 February.
