WHAT'S UP
Ghanchakkar’s confusion on stage
Novelist Sanjeev Uprety's debut novel Ghanchakkar was adapted into a play by the immensely talented theatre artists of Aarohan Theatre group. Directed by theatre genius Sunil Pokharel, the play, like the novel, is about the psychological suffering of a university teacher. On 5 January, the audience at the Rimal Natakghar weren't disappointed by the adaptation which initially was thought to be too ambitious. The play had already received rave reviews by the audience and the Indian press when it was staged at the 10th Theatre Festival, organised by National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi. Scenes impossible to be enacted on stage were created with the help of multimedia, a medium which is very novel to the Nepali audience. Actor Kamal Mani played the central character while Salil 'Kanika' portrayed his alter ego. With superb acting by the entire cast, the play will be staged everyday apart from Mondays till 15 March.
