Born on
1 April 1979 in Mehel Botey, Panchthar

Schooling from Arniko Boarding School, Biratnagar; Dipendra Police School, Sangha; BA in Ethnomusicology from Kathmandu University where I'm studying for an MA.

Picked up the guitar in class eight and first learnt plucking in C-scale, then Hiu Bhanda Chiso. A year later, I started composing originals. In class 10, I recorded my first song Timinai Pahilo which is in my debut album Udweg.

Instruments I play the guitar, dhime, tabla, keyboards, and sarangi. Sarangi is my favourite: it's portable, and the feel of the music when you play is deep.

WAVE Connection A friend sent me a WAVE Conxn back in school. Now, I review music for WAVE and it's fun because I get to listen to all sorts of music and keep myself updated.

Winning four Hits FM Music Awards has refuelled my enthusiasm. The album Coma was produced under much pressure. I went ahead and blended four different genres. I wasn't able to experiment as much as I wanted because my record company was worried that such music wouldn't do well. Plus I had college work to keep up with.

Being the UN Goodwill Ambassador has given me the opportunity to do things through music that I've always dreamt of. I tried education through music before, now as a White Band ambassador for fight against poverty, I plan to do more.

Next on the cards is a solo album I'm working on, the easy listening kind with ballads, cold jazz and alternative music.

Feel inspired under pressure. Like when I have exams I want to compose; when I need to compose, I study. It works vice-versa (laughs).

Listens to Nikhil Hassan, a Pakistani Urdu singer whose melody is raag but the rest is rock, it's like watching the colours of music unfold. I like Dave Matthews Band also.

Jamming with Looza is about growing together musically. I've never been much for cover versions but they are trying to get me to listen to more stuff.
