ANUP PRAKASH

Born on 1 March 1980 in New Road. Originally from Tehrathum but hasn't gone there for almost two decades.

Youngest child in the family. Dad, founder of the Hicola Color Lab, died in a jeep accident seven years ago. Kranti took months to come to terms with his loss. Mother Kabita Ale is a singer and actor.

Passed SLC from Shepherd International School with second division. Joined Jana Maitri Multiple Campus for plus-two in commerce. Then joined Shanker Dev for BBSâ€"but still hasn't finished.

Was a shy guy in school, wouldn't talk to girls. "That's why a girl I liked a lot paired up with my friend instead as I couldn't express my feelings."

First relationship with a girl from Narayanghat that lasted for six years. "But distance mattered a lot as we would meet only once or twice in a year, and then she went to Japan."

Doesn't believe in two-timing, and won't clarify whether he's currently in a relationship or not.

Interested in photography and learnt it at Pioneer Photography Institute after SLC for three months. "I'm good at capturing incidents as they happen." Uses a manual Nikon F4 and a digital Cybershot T7. Wants to buy the Nikon D200.

Learnt classical music from Sangeet Pravin Late Nararaj Dhakal for two months. "He was impressed with my singing."

Joined Dr Pilots as a singer in 1996. The band has released three albums. Has sung about 40 non-album songs. Also lent his voice to the film Paapi Maanchhay, and for four Magar-language songs. Can speak a bit of Newari, Magar, and Cantonese.

Charges Rs 25,000 per solo concert and with his band about Rs 100,000. "Sometimes we perform for free if it's for a social cause." Has done several charity shows including a concert for fire victims in Myanglung and for the children of Chetana Sandesh Nepal in Sarlahi.

Likes to keep up with political news, but won't get involved. If made Prime Minister, would want to open a Sangeet Mantralaya to "curb piracy and create and maintain standards in the music field."

Will marry only after three years. "It's going to be love marriage," but doesn't approve of premarital sex. "It's something to save for marriage."
