It is said that being normal comes from a lack of creativity and that studying the abnormal is the best way to understand the normal. But who decides what is normal and what is abnormal? We all know that it takes both to make this world yet why do we only seek what is most common? Could the reason come from not knowing what to expect or from the fear of being ostracized? We've often termed people who are different from us abnormal but it's strange that the thought about how we look like to them never crosses our minds.
Saraswoti Manandhar of Jeevan Kalyan Kendra, chose to look at the world through the eyes of psychologically challenged children and is helping them live in the 'normal' world. Read about her and her school in our Making a Difference section to know how including them in our 'different' world can be rewarding and fulfilling.
We also have automobiles that are a step away from the ordinary and are here to change the way Kathmandu drives through its impossible gullies. With the never-ending lines at the petrol pump, these electrical vehicles give us hope for a cleaner environment. Check out our feature titled Revolutionized Road Runners for more information on these new vehicles.
Talking of unconventional, we have tattoos, an ancient form of body art, in our feature titled Inked! In it we reflect on how this craze is rising and the perception change it's undergoing. An amalgamation of new and old, putting together this issue was a daunting task with two of our writers Prerana Marasini and Shashank Shrestha going away for further studies. Their absence was and will be greatly felt but WAVE moves on with your love and support.
A special thank you for the overwhelming response to our call for writers, it was a difficult task to pick a few out of so many talented individuals.
