Free Dental Camp [26 Feb. 05, outskirts of Kirtipur]

Haami, a group composed of young professionals, along with 9 dentists from City Dental Care Center, 2 assistant dentists and 2 of Japanese nurses, organized a free dental camp in the outskirts of Kirtipur. They raised the funds for this dental camp from the party Zodiac Blast organized in the capital in December last year. The camp was set up in classrooms at the Bagbhairav Boarding High School where ex-students also volunteered. There, they performed dental check up and tooth extractions and also provided education on dental awareness and gave out free medication and pamphlets on oral care.

Dentist Subhashini Manandhar, member of Haami said, "The camp will benefit Kirtipur residents and those from the vicinity as Nepalese generally cannot afford basic dental treatment. Since the general masses do not visit a dentist until they have severe tooth ache which in part is contributed by their lack of awareness, bringing the camp to them is beneficial." Over 350 persons aged between 5 and 75 years benefited from the camp, of which 60 percent were women and children.

Vice Chairman of Haami, Anup Raj Upreti said that they hoped to move their efforts into other parts of the country as well. Haami also hope to provide income-generating opportunities to individuals through manual skill trainings.
