At the South-Asian University Festival, it was Nepal's turn to showcase its cultural talent. The curtains of Kathmandu University's auditorium were raised on folk-rock band Kutumba, sitting with enthused smiles amidst their myriad of traditional instruments. All ready to give the crowd a good time, the band presented an 8-song set consisting of popular Nepali folk songs along with their own compositions. A highlight was the song Farewell, performed with rapper Yanik Shrestha, whose rhythmical lyrics touched on peace, education and respect for women. The fusion brought local Nepali music to another dimension – folk, rock and rap all in one, and not without respect to social issues.
