Anger and victory Relax, watch these films, feel good about the world and everything in it by ALOK AMATYA
When her husband disappears three days after his Swedish secretary leaves her job to return to her country, Terry Wolfmeyer (Joan Allen) assumes that he has left her for the other woman. Joan Allen is gorgeous as a woman drinking her life away. Emotionally unstable and addicted to the bottle, taking care of her four daughters becomes a challenge. Kevin Costner is charming as the has-been baseball star Danny Davies who hates talking about baseball on his radio show. He finds Allen and her domestic chaos much more attractive than his own inebriated solitude. Evan Rachel Woods as the youngest daughter 'Popeye' is lively and adorable. Mike Binder as the sugar daddy 'Shep' adds spice to the story. The movie leaves you a tad bit sad—it could be either because you miss the company of Costner and Allen or because of the slightly anticlimactic ending. In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, like many other Americans, James J Braddock lost everything in stocks. Russell Crowe proves his mettle as the real life pugilist Braddock. A series of defeats, an unpopular no-result match and a broken arm has Braddock staring at the end of his career. Barely able to pay the bills and feed his children, he fears having to send them away. When he gets a second chance, he gives it all he's got. After beating a #2 contender in a match arranged by his manager on the spur of the moment, Braddock reclaims himself against players younger and faster than him. Renee Zellweger is Mae Braddock, a sweet supportive wife. Cheered on by thousands who call him their hero, Cinderella Man–as he's dubbed by the press, is locked in a bout with heavyweight title defender Max Baer, who is known to have killed two boxers in the ring. Based on a true story, the script is well written and acted out. Hollywood Top 10 videos Cinderella Man Courtesy: DVD.com, Pulchok, 5551655; Suwal Music and Videos, 4421522 | ||||||||||||||||||||
