Recipient for the lifetime achievement award at the 2nd Hits FM Music Awards, Sangeet Prabin Nara Raj Dhakal passed away in Teaching hospital on Wednesday, 23rd May.

Veteran singer Prakash Shrestha was honored in Birgunj, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to music, social service, education and arts. On the occasion of the 11th Nagarparishad of Birgunj Sub-Metropolitan, Shrestha was awarded Rs. 51,000. In other news, Shrestha has been brought on as a board member of Nepal Television. 

Nepathya, a socially aware band, formed in 1990 by Deepak Rana (now a Chopper pilot), Bhim Rana (now settled in Hong Kong) and Amrit Gurung, has in these 14 years provided a platform to many musicians. With 6 albums released, Nepathya from it's Chekyo Chekyo days to Jomsome Bazaarma to Resham, has maintained it's consistency in the market. Nepathya's new album Bhedako oon Jasto, is topping all the charts in Nepal.

Pop singer Nima Rumba's younger sibling, Karma Rumba has also stepped into the music world with his new single Timro Maya Ma. His debut album might be released under the SAV label.

 
Max Lolo's last performance in Nepal before returning to Benin was held on Saturday, May 8. He launched his new album Reincarnation (mastered in Kathmandu) and performed numbers from the album along with a percussion show. Lolo was joined by special guests Navaraj Gurung, Andrea and Sanjay Shrestha of 1974 A.D.

Vivek Shrestha was in town to record Kandara's album Kandara Vol IV.  It's their first in six years and will be released this month.

A group of socially conscious people from different walks of life is beginning to get noticed. They are raising their voice against animal abuse and music is their medium. Animalnepal.org along with SAV launched their Rock n Bark album in Moksh on Saturday, May 14. It is a compilation with an array of artists ranging from 1974 A.D, Bijay Lama, Full Circle to 5th Grade Dropout. One song to look forward to especially would be Au Mili Gau, a collective effort from singers like Sugam Pokharel, Raman Singh, Ram Shrestha, Anil Singh, Bijay Lama, Sujil, Nabin K. Bhattarai and others. Be sure to get the album from a music store near you, as there's something to bark about.
