NEW PINCH by DINESH RAI
This is an interesting album. The title song Aakashbata has a lilting melody and a guitar riff reminiscent of Slash (G&R). Sakina Maile has beautiful guitar work by Sunil Bardewa. Maya Mero is a well composed soft rock written by Sanjeev himself. The flip side has two simple soft rock Gori Yeta and Chuleshima while Narou Narou is a mediocre reggae. Nabhana Koi Malai is the best melody in the album and suits the singer's style. It is also well arranged. But a tailoring advert is no way to end an album. This album features lyrics by Churchill Thapa. The first track has Harish Mathema singing a swinging Saathi Haun Ya Sangi followed by Phiroj Shyangden's soft rock Aklai Muskauna Deo. Babin Pradhan sings too carefully to sound natural on Sodhina Maile. Bhajan like Thaaha Chhaina is sung by Lasimit Rai while the other song worth listening is a folk song by Sandesh Bimb titled Ke Saaro Ni. SOCHHNAI SAKINA This is a compilation that pits senior Nepali singers with the youthful singers of today. The opening track has the unmistakable voice of Phatte Man Rajbhandari singing Jhari Parirahyo. The deep voice displays remarkable modulation. Kaane Kaane Picha by P.L Shrestha is a simple folk song about lost childhood, love and mortality. Uday Sotang excels in Timi Antai Gayepachi. The other songs are by Raman Shrestha, Sunil Bardewa, Pramod Upadhyaya and Karna Das. Ahiley Chahin Drabyako Ashama, Vastu Chahin Sangetik Bhashama This eponymous album is typical Rock Yogis. It begins with the best song Kya Bore, a lively, jumpy tune accompanied by some good guitar work and sung in Yogeshwar's unique style. Dashain is another good track about financial problems associated with this annual festival. Rang Birangko Phulbari is a sing along dance track followed by Ma Mare Pani Mero Desh, a patriotic song written by his late King Mahendra B.B. Shah. Pachas Tarika is based on a song by Paul Simon's 50 ways to leave your lover. The album ends with a song for peace highlighting strife This is an album of folk, pop and rock songs mostly composed by Rabin himself. Sang Sanghai and Baadulki are folk songs accompanied by maadal and flute followed by pop tunes of which Khabar is the better song with a lively fast paced tune. On Side B Chhayai Chhaya is a mediocre soft rock while Bhanana is a heavier song with guitars on overdrive although the song does not quite rock along. This album features songs written by Bimal Koirala, music by Shakti Balav and sung by the very best singers of Nepal. It is a compilation of what is known as modern Nepali songs. With the high standards and maturity of the singers, this is an album worth buying. | ||||||||||||||||||||
